Hi, I’m Trey. I’ve been around Eleven:28 Ministries from the beginning and I’m currently serving as chairman of the board of directors. I’m also Rhesa’s brother and that’s a description I gladly wear. I’m husband to Marla since 2000. She will tell you that we met because she spotted me across the room of an ACU theater (on a date with someone else, no less!). I’ll tell you that she’s leaving the part out where she loitered outside the men’s restroom during intermission, hoping to introduce herself when I came out.
If it involves Star Wars, baseball, or root beer, I’m in. So far, I’m doing a decent job of passing those loves on to my son Caden who is 13 and Grant who’s 9.
I spent about ten years working for churches in various capacities—youth, small groups, adult discipleship, and executive teams. I followed that with another eight as a personal, executive, and business coach. The common denominator throughout my career has been investing my time, energy, and gifts in the personal wellbeing of those needing to feel a sense of accomplishment and peace of mind about who they are and what they’re doing. In my heart of hearts, I’m a pastor and a priest.
In its mission to restore the rhythm and spiritual balance of caregivers in every corner of the world, Eleven:28 is a cause I’m passionate about. It’s a purpose I share—to care for those around me, and to teach them how to care for themselves. I’m extra passionate about that when those people are hurting and vulnerable.
My journey with spiritual direction began when Rhesa asked me to join the first board of directors for Eleven:28. The conversation went about like this:
“Trey, will you join the board of a not-for-profit I want to start to provide spiritual direction to ministers?”
“Yay, I’m so glad!”
“What’s spiritual direction?”
I have my answer now. My experience of spiritual direction has been deeply personal. It’s been a source of centering and mindfulness during dark moments of my life. It’s been a fun and insightful journey of discovering what it means to be an Enneagram 3. Just ask me—I’ll be happy to tell you how great it is to be a 3 and why we’re the only Enneagram number that can do everyone else’s job for them!
Along with my personal experience, I’ve witnessed Eleven:28’s impact go worldwide. We’ve sent representatives around the globe in support of missionaries. We’ve nurtured women in ministry. We’ve cared for the spouses of ministers as they walk the unique journey of being the partner of a minister.
I’m deeply grateful to have been part of this journey from its beginning, and I’m looking forward to seeing where this journey goes next!
